Audioconference to Focus on Using GIS Technology to Map City Youth Programs

Mayors' Action Challenge for Children and Families Unveiled by Panel of Mayors at NLC Congress of Cities
Charleston, S.C., Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., joined Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker in unveiling the Mayors' Action Challenge for Children and Families (www.mayorsforkids.org) at NLC's Congress of Cities on Nov. 15 in Orlando.
The Challenge calls on mayors to set at least one bold, measurable, locally-defined goal in each of the following areas to ensure that every child has:
- Opportunities to learn and grow;
- A safe neighborhood to call home;
- A healthy lifestyle and environment;
- A financially fit family in which to thrive.
More than 80 mayors have joined the Challenge, and many have already set specific targets in each of the four Challenge areas.

The YEF Institute has published a new action kit for municipal leaders on Creating a Youth Master Plan.
The kit offers tips and advice for cities seeking to develop a shared framework and improve coordination of services and opportunities for children and youth.
