Mayors' Launch Challenge to Set Specific Local Targets for Child and Family Well-Being

Mayors' Action Challenge for Children and FamiliesTwenty-six prominent mayors have launched a new initiative to promote city leadership and action on behalf of young people and their families. 

The Mayors' Action Challenge for Children and Families (www.mayorsforkids.org) calls on mayors from across the nation to set at least one bold, measurable, locally-defined goal in each of the following areas to ensure that every child has:

  • Opportunities to learn and grow;
  • A safe neighborhood to call home;
  • A healthy lifestyle and environment;
  • A financially fit family in which to thrive.

The YEF Institute has published a new action kit for municipal leaders on Creating a Youth Master Plan.

The kit offers tips and advice for cities seeking to develop a shared framework and improve coordination of services and opportunities for children and youth. More than 20 cities across the nation have undergone a youth master planning process.
